Fashion Tips: Summer Colorblocking

Happy Monday, Friends!

Do you remember, several years ago there was this trend going on called color blocking? I loved it, I still do, because I love cheerful colors and patterns. I went crazy doing all these colorblocking and patternmixing at the time. Well, I still do, because I don't really care for trend. As long as it doesn't look too weird, I just go for it! And I encourage you, too! If you happen to like bright and cheerful colors, just go all out. It's summer time, and happy colors can lift your mood and those around who have to look at you!

Here I will share with you how I styled and mixed bold colors together. It's not about the classic black-red-white combination, it's about mixing flashy colors. I got a lot of inspirations by reading other lady bloggers' pictures, so I hope I can contribute to the internet fashion resources in the blogosphere, and maybe you can pick up an idea or two. ^__^

You will see that all the looks I share here were not for the office. They were for going to the movies after office hours, running errands, visiting relatives, and going to Church. Mind you, brashy looks have their own place, too. My office is quite conventional, so I won't go that crazy. However, if you work in a creative or art industry, it's much more acceptable. Just use common sense whether or not a particular look will be appropriate for a certain time, place and situation.

Also, you can always add splashes of colors to an otherwise not-so-cheerful-looking combo with a purse or bold accessories.

Coral, white, jeans, mustard yellow, and turquoise to go to the mall.

The color yellow always signifies cheerfulness, the sun, lemonade, and summer. Grab yourself a bright yellow tote and you can transform even the most humdrum look into a don't-worry-be-happy look.
Meanwhile, the crocheted style white layer is always useful. You can use it for modesty, to add style to your look, to provide a little bit of coverage from the scorching summer sun. I found it to be a good investment and have worn my white layers many many times.
White, shocking pink, orange, deep mint, and colorful sandals to visit beauty parlor.

Bright lemon yellow, red, deep tosca, and stone-washed jeans to go to the movies after work.

I'm not a big fan of the color orange, but I have to admit that the orange capri pants that I got several years ago have had many mileage and turned out to be easy breezy to style with other pieces in my wardrobe.

If you want a splash of summery color but not a fan of "hot" colors, tosca is perfect for you. See how pretty and versatile my tosca purse look combined with other colors?

Light blue with colorful pattern, coral, turquoise, sky blue, and fuschia for a Sunday stroll at the mall.

Colorful flowers on white, deep tosca, orange, and turquoise for a touch of Fall look.

Again with the sunny orange and various shades of mint.

Bright yellow, colorful flower necklace, and pink.

Just change it around into red dress with mustard yellow purse, add the happy flower necklace again, AND the cheerful wedges, then finish with dark denim to visit relatives on auspicious Lunar New Year.

Fuschia, mint, jeans, turquoise, and deep tosca go well together.

I love the burst of colors during summer time. Get those colorful accessories, sandals, and clothes out of your closet and flaunt them. They do no one good just sitting in your closet. If you're shy of colors, just wear one color that would pop up as an accessory: like the tosca sandals that I wore, or a colorful flower bib necklace. You can even carry a hot pink bag to happy-fy (is that a word?) an all black or an all oatmeal-color ensemble if monochromatic is your style.
A very happy-looking momiform: striped yellow, red, stone-washed jeans, and red.

Going to Church? Well, I didn't want to blind my fellow Church goers with bold colors, so I opted for clashing pastels, instead, in soft coral and mint!

And last but not least, even a simple top and jeans combination have a new life when you throw on a bright pink purse to finish the look.

I Love Colors and That's OK

Hello, my beautiful Friends!

Thank you to you all who have left me some very kind, caring, supporting words! It really does me good to read all your get-well-soon messages and prayers from across the ocean. I am still in recovery after surgery. The surgery itself had some complications, and recovery had been slow, but the good Lord had shown His mercy and made small miracles for this little sinner which is me. Praise Him forever and ever!

If you have followed my blog for a while, you might know that I just love colors. Especially in an outfit. My Mom often criticize my fashion sense, saying that my love for cheerful colors, pattern mixing, daring color combination, tendency for over-accesorizing, Hello Kitty, various shades of pink and all things cute and kawaii as kitschy, childish, and unclassy. She herself loves neutral colors, simple lines, high named brands, and animal prints. She oozes class and exudes elegance.

Well, yeah, I admire Audrey and Coco. A lot. But I am not them. Elegance is not my first, middle, nor my last name. I love looking at pictures of high-society ladies like Ivanka Trump and Aerin Lauder. I admire their fashion sense and simplicity. But I know that if I wear what they wear on a daily basis, I would get bored pretty quickly. Their fashion sense is their own. Mine is mine.

And my fashion sense can be summed up in M3F as I wrote in About section of this blog: modest, frugal, feminine and fun. And I would underline the word FUN.

Fashion is what get me going out of bed in the morning, most of the time. I'm not a morning person, waking up early to go to work or pretty much to do anything early in the morning is a hard chore. However, thinking about all the pretty colors and fun outfits and accesories that I'm going to wear that day makes me excited and want to throw aside the blanket, get into the shower and start my morning preparation ritual that would set the tone for the whole day.

Granted, once I'm dressed and dash out the door, I would forget about what I wear. And that works for me. By liking what I see in the mirror before starting my day, I start the day in a joyful mode and soon after I can focus to do whatever it is I need or want to do for the day: go to work, go to the park with my son, meeting friends, trying out new restaurant, clean the house, prepare holiday decoration. My morning ritual - beauty and fashion - is like what a stage actress does before she starts the show: make up and preparation to get into the role.
My role is not an elegant lady of leisure that covers the page of a magazine. My role is a daughter of God, a wife, a mother, a career woman, a business owner, a middle class woman who loves life and embraces it with open arms and sparkles in her eyes. A woman who loves colors, Hello Kitty, pinks, and kitschy, cute stuff. Tacky to some, pretty and fun to me.

And that's OK. Take a look around you. The color of the sky, the different shapes of flowers, birds, texture of grass, food, architecture of buildings, different bone structure of people around the world. Can't you tell? The Lord loves beauty and variety.

After all, if all women look like Ivanka and Aerin, Coco and Audrey, don't you think the fashion world would be a little bit boring? After all, it's their individuality that makes these magnificent ladies stand out among everyone else.

What say you? ^__^

That's why Kate Spade is one of my favorite brands. It's fun, colorful, good quality, and relatively affordable. I love this Kate Spade purse in tosca. The color is fun, the shape classic, and it can carry a multitude of things. I finish the look with hot fuschia wedges with this cute bow and colorful beaded necklace and bracelets. Unclassy? Maybe. Fun? Absolutely.
