Sunday Market Momiform

One time I read a blog post titled "A Dapper Mom" about a mother who wore jeans, a nice T-shirt, a statement necklace, and a leopard-print flats to a children's birthday party, and she felt overdressed because other moms wore shorts and oversized T-shirts. And she said, "It took me five minutes to wear these ensemble, and I'm sure it also took them the same amount of time to wear what they wear, but at least I look like I'm making an effort." Btw, she did write that she didn't wear any makeup, just a dash of pink lipstick, because she didn't have time to put on full makeup. BUT the pink lipstick made a whole lot of difference.

I don't mean to be judgemental here, but I agree with her. After becoming a mother, I dress much simpler, with less frills and accessories. I don't change bags everyday like I used to. I avoid complicated style like special layering that needs a lots of tucking in. I no longer wear stockings everyday. BUT I DO care on the image I project to the world. So does my husband.

So I chose to be smarter about dressing up. I choose simpler lines now. I choose comfortable clothes. I choose momiforms that will look good on me and are comfortable to wear and take very little time and energy to put on in the morning. Instead of frumpy ensembles, I choose cute pairs like this pink T-shirt and skirt with rose prints on it. The secret to its comfy factor? The skirt has elastic waistband, making it a breeze to put on and off, very very quickly.

Another tool of trade? Extra comfy flat with thick rubber soles with rose on them. Very cute, very comfy, very casual, and they look very good.

I don't care to look like Posh Spice, VIctoria Beckham. I admire her style, but there's no way I will trade the comfy factor with stiletto heels after trans-Atlantic flights like she usually does. She inspires me to make an effort not to look like "I'm a mom and I let myself go"; but I don't need to reach for her perfection. I mean, looking ultra-groomed is her job, and she makes millions doing it. Not me!

Anyway, one Sunday we went to a wet market, to buy some fish, fresh ground gourmet coffee for Hubby, and some other fresh produce for the family. And this mom proudly and comfortably rocked this real-life, real-mom momiform!

What Are You Focus On?

There you go again! You want that newest glittery, shiny, sparkly object that you don’t have. How marvelous it would be to have that small addition into our lives! Surely it would beautify us, makes us feel like a million bucks, attractive, successful, wonderful, luscious, in love with life! How can you not have that!

Uh oh. Sounds too familiar, isn’t it?

That new shiny-sparkly-glittery object could be a new eyeshadow palette, on sale on Sephora. It could be that brand new oh-so-lovely rose-colored lipstick that hold a thousand promises to bring glamour to our look, and therefore, excitements to our lives! Perhaps it’s the new knick-knack from Dollar Tree, a colorful glass ornament, a new planner, new stickers for our projects that might get us to be more… crafty. Or, on a more dangerous path, it could be a dazzling smile of another man. A man who is not our boring, selfish, unattentive husband. A man who is willing to listen, flatter us and say we look beautiful, shower us with attention. A man who is already married. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Now let’s shift our focus a little bit. Look inside your drawer. You have, what, five eyeshadow palettes that you have not touched for months, because you are already comfortable with the one neutral palette that you keep using every single day. Instead of torturing yourself thinking about THAT one palette that you simply MUST buy, why don’t you think about what are you going to do with the five palettes already stashed in your own drawer? Watch some tutorial videos on YouTube and think how fun it would be to play with those five palettes?
Mix two tones of lipsticks that have been kept idly in your stash and see how it would come out. You can create your own, unique, custom-made-especially-for-you, shade of lipstick. You can even name it to whatever it is your heart desire! Coral Frost. That’s what I came up with mixing two a pale frost shade that is too pale for me, with a matte warm coral shade. Coral on the bottom, frost on the top layer. I got even a better surprise when I mixed the same shades but changed the layers: frost first, coral on top. It came out satiny instead of frosty! I felt a bit like LeeAnne Lauder or LeeAnne Revlon. Or maybe not. But you know what I mean.

What about finally really get down to it and create craft from your mountainous amount of craft supplies in the basement? Invite the neighborhood kids if you feel like feeding your inner Peter Pan and spend an hour or two being creative in your own Never Neverland! You will forget about shopping for new stickers on Etsy if your hands are busy having fun.

If you think that THAT man is much more charming and understanding than your own husband, well, change your focus to what you’ve already had. Yes, Ladies. The man who will be coming home to you tonite may not be very exciting, but he is yours and yours only. Focus on what he has done for you all these years. Think of what he has not done for you all these years: he has not let his eyes and heart wandered to other women, for example. And think about all the wonderful things you would want to do with him, for him, and for both of you that would make your marriage felt alive again. Want a picnic in the park but he never initiates it? Why don’t you prepare the picnic basket, wear a nice autumn dress and invite him along with you? You cannot suddenly kiss the random handsome guy you saw at the grocery store, but you can do so to your dear husband. You can even tickle him a bit and have a laugh!

Don’t focus on what you don’t have. Focus on what you have, and suddenly you will realize that what you’ve already had is nice and wonderful, just as well!

For today’s look, instead of coveting a new dress, I had a bit of fun by giving this old dress a new, fresher look with some layering. Check it out and let me know which look you like best: the original look, or the layered look.

A Little Time, So Much Glam

I used to work in an office that only allows wearing black or white. I worked there for five years before changing job to my current one, so you can imagine my euphoria! After five years wearing only black and white, now I can wear any colors that I want! Suddenly this girl burst out like a rainbow with any colors imaginable. Nowadays I opt not wearing black and white if I could help it because I'm done wearing them so much for five years already!

Still, black and white is a classic combination that cannot go wrong. The color combination always looks right, and I like to add sprinkles of cheerful color to spice things up.

This Kate Spade Cedar Street Elissa in geranium red is really a good investment because it's sturdy, it can carry a lot, and the bold, unusual red color adds a pop of fun to almost any outfit. I added lots of accessories to complet this look: a cheerful braid necklace, orange leaves earrings, stack of colorful bracelet, a Hello Kitty crystal bangles, and deep purple wedges.

One might think that this look requires a lot of prep work. Actually it's a quick dash to throw on the top, the wrap skirt, and the ruffled jacket. Then I just randomly grab any accessories with multicolor hues to finish it off. Accessorizing takes much less time to me compared to outfit combining, because you don't need to be very precise. You can make mistakes and it won't be too noticeable. And when wearing accessories, you will look as if you have put a lot of thought to your look, when in fact, you spent no more than five minutes to grab some things from your jewelry drawer.
Meanwhile, where have I been during the long month hiatus from the blogging world? Hubby and I went for a two-week trip to Europe. Indonesia is not a Moslem country, but Islam is the majority religion of the people here. Thus, eventhough we have various religious holidays around the year, Idul Fitri is the biggest one when most of businesses shut down for a week or more. We always try to use this time of the year to do some traveling. Last year we went to Italy. This year, we made a trip around Bavarian Germany, Berner Oberland Switzerland, and Salzkammergut Austria. It was a wonderful trip, many pictures taken of the maginificent views!

    Many Yellows, Specks of Turquoise

Have any of you ever tried yellow over yellow combination? I had not, until I wore this neon yellow cardigan over the pale lemon yellow top. At first I was afraid it would look to blindingly bright for my conservative office, but they turned out nicely and prettily. At least, I think so!

Really, this is summertime, I imagine living in a little cottage with lush garden wrapping around it, with white picket fence. I'm dreaming of sitting on the front porch, under the shade of magnolia tree, reading a book while sipping a glass of fresh lemonade. On the table next to me, a pitcher of iced lemonade with lemon slices floating on top, and a plate of crackers. Wouldn't that be delightful!

Perhaps it would something like this...

Or it would be like this lovely painting...

Ok, I'm getting sidetracked here. I'm listening to Gone With The Wind soundtrack: Tara's Theme while writing this post, and got a bit of Scarlett O'Hara moment. Back to the outfit. I plan my outfits of the week around the purse I would be carrying for that particular week, and I was carrying the nautical white and leaf green summer tote, which I love, because of its size and structured shape. I didn't plan to throw yellow on top of green, but here they go and blend very well. I finished the look with a turquoise-colored statement necklace, earrings, and bow wedges. Not too shabby, if I may so myself. Colors always make me happy!
