Playing With Flowers

These pictures were taken when I was 30 weeks pregnant.

I love clothes. I do not love buying clothes, or spending money, on clothes that I know I would not wear   too frequently.

For that matter I don't do much maternity wear shopping. During all my pregnancy I only buy three pieces of maternity dress. And all of them I can refashion later on to wear after giving birth, with a little bit of sewing.

For daily wear during my pregnancy, I make do with whatever I already had in my closet:
  • Babydoll dresses and tops, like this one I wore in these pics. I don't like wearing tight tops that show off the baby bump for all the world to see. I consider it a little bit vulgar, so I opt for soft, flowy materials instead, like this piece. You can see that I was pregnant, but you cannot see all my curves and all, if you know what I mean.
  • Pleated skirts with all around elastic waistband in basic colors. I only have one in black, and it went a looooong way during my pregnancy. And I can still wear it after the baby arrived.
  • For some skirts with tight waist line, I took off the elastic part of the waistband to stretch it, to give room to the growing belly.
  • For my dresses, I opened up the seam stitches on the front and back of the waist areas. The dresses were still shapely, but with much larger waist. After I gave birth, all I needed to do was to sew them back, and voila! The waist part of the dresses became smaller again.
  • Long vests. I had two in black and navy and white checked one, and they camouflaged all the curves and expanding belly very well.
Mind you, I was NOT trying to hide the fact that I was pregnant. But I don't follow Hollywood fashion for maternity wear that show off the tummy and the belly and all on pregnant ladies with tight tops and transparent tops and low riders.

I'm glad that I didn't spend too much on maternity wear. Now that the baby is here, the little bundle of joy costs us a lot of extra money! We are not extravagant or anything. We only buy Baby Michael the essentials. Still, we need to pay for regular things like doctor appointments, diapers (he wears cloth diapers during the day and disposable ones at night after his evening bath), formula (I breastfeed him, but we give him formula once in a while to give me a break and also when I need to go out of the house), etc. Not to mention that we need to start saving for his education!

Besides, being creative with fashion, AND frugal living, even during pregnancy, is so much fun! ^__^

This is one of many ways I wore this top when I was not pregnant.

Very cute clothes. I also do not appreciate tight shirts that show off every curve--pregnant or not. Thanks for sharing.
