Remix: Black Shirt As Wardrobe Staple

Fashion experts say that a crisp white shirt is must have staple in every woman's wardrobe. Well, for me, a crisp black shirt is. Let's admit, a white shirt is more high maintenance than a black one. Especially here in Jakarta where the water is not of very good quality. You can practically turn a white  fabric to a yellowish or brownish with just several washing. Not to mention the dust an debris since air polution in Jakarta is pretty bad. With a black shirt, you don't have any of those aforementioned problems.

I have two basic black shirts of good quality. The fabric is pretty sturdy and doesn't need ironing. Best of all, I got them for free! I received them about seven years ago as part of office uniform set in my previous work. I still carry and wear them until today, so they last practically forever.

I don't particularly like wearing a black shirt, I much prefer white one. Not because of what the experts say, but because of personal preference. However, I also love to use things up and make do with everything I've already had instead of buying new or letting clothes piling up and sitting collecting dust in the dark corner of my wardrobe. Here I will share several ways how I mix and match a black shirt. It's super easy. You can get creative, frugal and have fun at the same time remixing it.

Wear it with all black and throw on some gold and silver accessories like I did in this post.

Basic black button down shirt (similar here, here)
Black lace skirt (similar here)
Mustard bag (similar here, here)

Add some other basic color like khaki to create a classic, timeless look like in this post.
.

Pair it with burst of colors and bold patterns for a fun and whimsical look like this post here.

Floral skirt (similar from Asos here, here, here)

Black, white and red combination has stood the test of time and can never go wrong like what I wore in this post. Missoni inspired.

Chevron black and white vest (similar here)
Red belt (similar here)

Vintage also goes well with a basic black shirt. Don't believe me? Well, look how I paired it with this vintage, ultra feminine, pale lemon yellow, billowy skirt from my Mom's closet. You can see it in this post.

Lemon flare skirt (similar here)

This trusty little staple even goes well with sequins! Check it out here in this post.

I agree on having a good black top. Loved the photo with the khaki jacket and your mom's billowy skirt. Thank you for sharing at Monday's Musings.

Loved seeing all the different ways you styled the black shirt! My favorite is the chevron vest with the pops of red and the floral skirt!
