Frugal Decorating: The Autumn Leaves

Hello, Friends!

In this post, I just want to share some Fall themed decoration that I did in our living room. We don't have fall season in Indonesia, being a tropical country and all, but I still love to celebrate the change of season by doing a bit of work and put some variety to our home. Puttering and nesting are really fun and refreshing to do, and being a wife and mother who works full time outside the home but still trying to be the best homemaker I know how, I have learned not to be too... perfectionist. Decorating should not be expensive and draining, and I do it because I enjoy it and I want to create a lovely home for my family, not because I want to compete with anyone!

If you have not tried to decorate before, I urge you to try it! If the idea of decorating sounds daunting to you, try do make a centerpiece for your living room table. A vase with flowers. Or beautiful bowl filled with red apples and beautiful oranges. Even a small basket filled your children's colorful toys. There, you have done some decorating!

I have thrown together some knick knacks and objects that I have already had in my collection, and this is how they look. I combine them with everyday objects that anyone can find around the house.

The "stand" for the pumpkin cloth dolls is actually a chocolate box with gold paper lining!

Here is another centerpiece made by two cups filled with ribbons and bows from old parcels and gifts.

Another centerpiece made of a used Christmas basket and Michael's favorite book collection for easy access. And Hello Kitty coin bank that he likes to play with. It's mine, but I don't mind his playing with it, though he's a boy. At least he learns about saving!

The potted flowers were DIY. I made the pot out of used paint cans, painted with red, then filled with small black river stones. The boughs were dried real boughs, and the cherry blossom flowers were leftovers from some events several years ago.

The overal look is quite pretty, don't you think! ^__^
